    Lymphedema Program

Fairlawn's Outpatient Center provides specialized medical rehabilitation services for individuals with lymphedema, a swelling in the limbs caused by damage to the lymphatic system. Damage to this system, which purifies and transports fluid back to the circulatory system, is most often caused by surgery, trauma, infection, or cancer therapies (i.e., radiation).

    Goals
Fairlawn's outpatient Lymphedema Program is dedicated to:
    • Controlling and reducing edema.
    • Providing support and education to assist the patient in leading a full and productive life.

    Services
Treatment sessions last one and a half to two hours for one to four weeks, five days a week. Following a comprehensive evaluation, sessions consist of:

    • Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage
    • Bandaging
    • Skin Care
    • Exercise
    • Patient/Family Education
    • Referrals for Compression Garments
    • Outpatient Services

    * Measurements are taken on a weekly basis.
