Forum Reaches Many Stroke Survivors and Caregivers
More than 50 central Massachusetts residents whose lives have been impacted by stroke recently attended a Stroke Survivor-Caregiver Forum hosted by Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital, the American Stroke Association, and UMass Memorial Health Care.
The fifth annual Forum, which focused on the "In's and Out's of Stroke Recovery," offered presentations on innovations in stroke rehabilitation, including the AutoAmbulator, SaeboFlex, and VitalStim Therapy. Attendees also enjoyed an interactive session on stress reduction techniques and a panel discussion in which survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals shared their insights into recovery.
The Forum's annual "Community Conscience Award," given in recognition of an individual's commitment and dedication to excellence in stroke prevention and treatment, went to Dr. Majaz Moonis. A neurologist who serves as Director of the Stroke Prevention Clinic and as Assistant Director of the Stroke Program at UMass Memorial Health Care, Dr. Moonis has conducted research and published extensively on stroke management, prevention, and treatment.
