Fairlawn, Stroke Association Host Stroke Survivor and Caregiver Forum
     
    A recent forum hosted by Fairlawn and the American Stroke Association offered a wealth of information to stroke survivors and their caregivers. The third such forum presented by Fairlawn and the ASA, the program included discussions on driving after stroke, treatments for spasticity, caring for the caregiver, and intimacy after stroke.
     
    The forum also included a young stroke survivor's personal perspective on recovery and presentation of the 2004 Community Conscience Award. The event was held May 20 at the Holiday Inn in Worcester.
     

    Herve Leveillee, a 45-year-old stroke survivor from Spencer, MA, shared his moving stroke recovery story at the recent Stroke Survivor and Caregiver Forum.
     

    Shannon Namislo of the American Stroke Association (left) and Joyce Colby of Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital (right) presented Deb Dowd-Foley with the 2004 Community Conscience Award. Deb, a caregiver specialist with Elder Services, was honored for her long-standing efforts to assist caregivers throughout central Massachusetts.
