Fairlawn Awards Grant for Nursing Scholarships

Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital and Worcester State College (WSC) recently established a partnership to meet the increasing area demand for graduating nurses with bachelor's degrees.

In response to the shortage of nurses in Massachusetts, Fairlawn has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Worcester State Foundation to provide scholarships for nursing students who commit to at least one year of service to Fairlawn upon graduation from WSC.

Up to five $3,000 scholarships will be awarded annually to students willing to commit to at least one year of service to Fairlawn upon graduation from the college's nursing program. Additionally, the creation of the Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital Clinical Excellence Award will provide a $250 award annually to a graduating student nurse.

"This is all about caring for people," said Peter Mantegazza, Fairlawn's CEO. "This partnership is another giant step in meeting our mutual goals to serve the people of central Massachusetts."

Upon accepting the grant, WSC President Janelle Ashley, said, "We believe through this collaboration with Fairlawn we are fulfilling our mission as a college. Our nursing students will benefit, Fairlawn will benefit, and the community at large will be much better served."
