Swallowing Disorders Program
Fairlawn's speech-language pathologists are trained in the evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders, be it oral, pharyngeal, or a combination of the two.
Goals
Diagnoses associated with swallowing disorders include stroke, head/neck cancer, brain injury, vocal cord paralysis, neuromuscular disorders, and head/neck injuries.
Treatment provided through Fairlawn's Swallowing Disorders Program focuses on:
- Return to eating/drinking by mouth
- Reducing risk of aspiration/pneumonia

- Videofluroscopic Studies
- Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation (DPNS) - a highly effective treatment for pharyngeal swallowing disorders
