Functional Capacity Evaluations
Fairlawn's outpatient Functional Capacity Evaluation Program provides an objective, comprehensive assessment of an individual's ability to perform work functions. An FCE assists employers, physicians, insurers, attorneys, and case managers in determining safe, functional levels for an individual to return to work or to establish residual functional ability.
Goals
An FCE objectively measures an individual's:
- Current physical/functional abilities
- Capacity to perform specific work activities and safely function within a work environment
Services
The strength of the FCE is the reproducibility of the data collected, the comprehensiveness of the assessment, and the functional reporting of the findings to the physician, employer, insurance carrier, attorney, and/or worker.
The FCE consists of :
- Detailed medical and vocational history (including job description)
- Aerobic capacity testing to determine endurance for work activities
- Musculoskeletal screen to determine physical limitations
- Strength/postural tolerance testing
- Evaluation of job-specific activities based on work classifications (i.e., sedentary, light, heavy) and time frames (rare, occasional, frequent, constant)
