Wheelchair Basketball Game Raises Controversy and Funds

The jury is still out as to who actually won Fairlawn's 13th annual wheelchair basketball game to benefit the Bay State Wheelers, a local organization dedicated to providing recreational activities for people with disabilities.

While some claim Fairlawn's squad captured its first win, others insist that the Wheelers, comprised of people with disabilities, trounced their adversaries for the thirteenth year in a row. Then there's another "theory" that the game ended in a tie.

While the controversy involves some issue with an extended fourth period, everyone agrees that the game was lots of fun and went a long way toward supporting the Wheelers' programs, which include tennis, water sports, and, of course, basketball. By the end of the night, ticket and raffle proceeds totaled more than $4,500, all of which goes to the Wheelers.
