Fairlawn Working Toward Disease-Specific Certification in Brain Injury
Fairlawn is currently working toward Disease-Specific Certification in Brain Injury Rehabilitation from The Joint Commission (TJC).
To achieve this designation, Fairlawn must demonstrate that the hospital's Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program meets specific requirements in three areas:
- Compliance with consensus-based national standards
- Effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care
- An organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.
Currently in the initial phase of this process, Fairlawn has already taken the following steps toward certification:
- Chosen clinical practice guidelines* to determine where it demonstrates proficiency and where it needs to improve
- Chosen four performance improvement indicators and has begun collecting data related to those indicators. (TJC requires four months of data collection prior to applying for a certification survey).
- Initiated staff education on specific areas related to brain injury
Once these steps are completed, the hospital's Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program will undergo an extensive on-site evaluation by a team of Joint Commission reviewers.
